GIRLS ON THE RUN SWFL CELEBRATES 15 YEARS WITH INSPIRATIONAL SNEAKER SOIRÉE FEATURING FOUNDER MOLLY BARKER

Ft Myers Florida – Girls on the Run SWFL celebrated 15 years of empowering young girls with confidence, character, and resilience at the Sneaker Soirée: Shine Bright, Run Bold on March 8. The event, held on International Women’s Day, brought together supporters, alumni, volunteer coaches, and community leaders to reflect on the program’s impact and its promising future.

A highlight of the evening was a keynote address by Girls on the Run founder Molly Barker, who shared the inspiration behind the program’s launch in 1996. Barker reflected on how Girls on the Run has transformed lives for nearly three decades, equipping girls with the confidence and life skills to navigate challenges with strength and joy. Her message underscored the program’s ripple effect, as generations of participants carry its lessons into adulthood, leadership roles, and their communities.

The evening also honored the dedicated volunteer coaches who bring the program to life each season. A special moment came with the presentation of the inaugural Molly Barker Impact Award to Lisa Newbrough, a devoted coach of over 10 years. Newbrough’s unwavering commitment has helped shape countless lives, embodying the core mission of Girls on the Run—empowering girls to reach their full potential through coaching, encouragement, and leadership.

The event successfully raised nearly $15,000 to fund scholarships for local girls who might not otherwise have access to the program. More than 60% of Girls on the Run SWFL participants rely on financial assistance, and proceeds from the Sneaker Soirée ensure that every girl has the opportunity to benefit from this life-changing experience.

“We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, donors, and everyone who made this night possible,” said Kristen Manomat, Executive Director of Girls on the Run SWFL. “Raising nearly $15,000 means more girls will have the opportunity to build confidence, connect with coaches, and experience the transformative power of Girls on the Run. Celebrating our 15th anniversary on International Women’s Day, with Molly Barker here to share in the moment, made it even more meaningful.”

Over the past year alone, Girls on the Run SWFL has served more than 800 girls, providing a research-based curriculum that teaches essential life skills and culminates in a celebratory 5K event.
